To many, the world we inhabit is one of dead matter, but the truth could not be further from accepted fact. In this investigation, based on the arts and philosophy residency at Chile's UNAB and book of the same name, we will explore the scientific and metaphysical reality: that the architectonic and geological worlds are very much alive.

By surveying the history of biological and geological processes on earth and drawing particular focus to carbonaceous minerals such as marble, limestone, and concrete, we will reconsider our definitions of “life” and consider a scientifically validated metaphysics wherein the very sidewalks we tread, the roofs over our heads, and the stones buried deep beneath our feet are rich with life.
