Queering the Liminal | Betwixt and Between the Binary

Within the Western Occult and Mystery Traditions which many of us have studied and initiated into, we often find ourselves experiencing terms and concepts such as “Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine”, “God and Goddess”, polarity, and gender. As a global culture which is evolving into a more androgynous expression of gender norms and archetypes, these terms can often be limiting to the mystic and magical practitioner, especially those of us who identify and experience life anywhere along the infinitely vast Queer spectrum. 

In this innovative offering, Rowan Nymphaea KA (they/them) will introduce a unique approach to understanding and applying a Queer perspective to these gender-based dynamics within the Mystery Teachings by addressing the differences between polarity, duality, and binary in magical mythos and praxis, as well as exploring the cosmic functions and principles which often get imposed upon them with human ideologies and expressions of gender and biological sex. 

We will explore the Queer Spirit Mysteries by journeying along the Crooked Path toward the crossroads of Queerness, ritual magic, and liminality through the teachings and transmissions of the Hermetic Qabalistic Tree of Life, Modern and Traditional Witchcraft currents, the Tarot, Egyptian Cosmology, and more! The intention of this offering is to weave all of these seemingly disparate diasporas into a clear and applicable understanding of how we as liminal beings can attune to the vast array of gendered and genderless expressions of the Cosmos and Mystery Teachings to inform and enhance our ritual and magical workings, no matter what body we may have taken incarnation in.

About the Presenter:

Rowan Nymphaea KA (they/them) is a queer mystic, oracle, and witch who is deeply devoted to the path of ritual leadership, education, and divination as offerings to support others in their transformational journeys. They are an initiate of mystery traditions and lineages such as Modern Traditional Witchcraft, Hermetic Qabalah, and Oracle Arts, and have studied and trained extensively in yoga & meditation, divinatory arts, hypnosis, and occult sciences for over 10 years. Rowan is the Director of the Oracle Arts Apprenticeship program through the Academy of Oracle Arts, and the Creative Director and Visionary leader of Queering the Liminal, a community expression of the Queer Spirit Mysteries through education and ritual offerings. Rowan is deeply called and committed to the teachings of the Queer Spirit Mysteries and how we can align our lives in prayer, ceremony, magic, and devotion to The Great Mystery while being in service to the seen and Unseen forces within the Web of Life.
