Many folks are aware of the strong protective & blessing magic of the heavily Catholic Italian American & Italian folk magic community, but not many are aware of the curses that the apotropaic spells protect against. Limited information exists on the nature and history of Italian cursing, as it was and still is frowned upon. But why is it frowned upon? Why are these spells barely spoken of, muttered against, and more? And what does it mean to look at these long-feared workings through the lens of justified work - against abusers? Against institutions that oppress us? What do the curses that have been transcribed teach us about how to approach justified work?
