As far back as the origins of human storytelling, and liberally sprinkled like pixie dust throughout modern popular media, the Good Witch has existed as a counterpoint to the Witch – not the Bad Witch, but the Witch, as definitions both literary and sociocultural, in the modern West and everywhere else, have always and already pointed toward the witch as being naturally and unquestionably bad.

That being said, by only existing in counterpoint to the Witch, the Good Witch has never been clearly defined by culture. What are the necessary criteria, what standards must be met, for a Witch to be considered a Good Witch? Who is she, what does she do, what power does she wield, and why…
